Rhode Island DOT Physical Requirements & Regulations
Understanding RI’s DOT Physical Regulations
While a DOT Physical is a federally required test, you still need to do certain things at the state level with your State Driver Licensing Agency, or SDLA.
If you are a Rhode Island resident, your SDLA is the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and you can find more information about them on their website.
Self Certification Requirement in Rhode Island
New federal regulations require all commercial drivers to self-certify their type of commercial driving activity with the Rhode Island DMV. Self-certification will also require you to submit a copy of your DOT medical card. See our page on self-certification for more information.
Keep The RI DMV Up To Date With Your Medical Card
All medical cards have an expiration date, and before yours expires you will need to update the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles with your updated card after receiving a new DOT Physical Exam.
The card can be submitted by email or fax. The email address is DMV.CDL@dmv.ri.gov or it may be faxed to 401-462-5805. Check their page on DOT Medical Cards for the most up-to-date state-level information.
